Denver, CO — January 25, 2021 — The Investments and Wealth Institute, a nonprofit organization that supports the professional development of the greater financial community worldwide, has named Mike Kurz, CIMA®, CPWA®, CFP®, CAIA® as its inaugural director of programs.

Kurz brings more than 20 years of experience as an industry executive at firms dedicated to engaging with financial advisors, independent advisor firms, and CPA advisor firms across various industry segments throughout the country. His roles in education include counseling investors and financial advisors in wealth management techniques and strategies, including investment advisory programs, private equity, hedging strategies, and formalized financial planning.

“I am delighted that Mike will advance our certification strategy as director of programs,” said Devin Ekberg, CIMA®, CPWA®, CFA®, Chief Learning Officer and Managing Director of Content Development. “Under Mike’s leadership, the Investments & Wealth Institute will strengthen its position as the industry’s source of advanced credentials that set the highest standards of investment and wealth management.

"I am excited to officially join the Institute staff. My long-time engagement with the Institute as a volunteer and recipient of the CIMA® and CPWA® certifications, gives me great insight into what our candidates experience at every level," explained Kurz. Adding, "now on the other side, I get to use my technical knowledge, and the first-hand experience as an independent advisor and certified professional to help advance professionalism, knowledge and ethics within the financial advisor community."

In response to the RIA community's growing needs, Kurz plans to lead the Institute’s newest initiative, the Center for RIA Excellence, which will serve as a premier online community for advanced RIA firm principals and practitioners, where they can learn, connect, explore curated content, share resources and best practices.

As part of this RIA initiative, Kurz will leverage the Institute’s Scholarship Fund to support the development of RIA next generation advisors and members of underrepresented communities. The Scholarship Fund aims to award nearly $200,000 in 2021 to scholarship recipients eager to enhance their competency and professionalism.

Kurz earned his B.B.A in Finance at Midwestern State University and is an Investment Advisor Representative. In addition, he is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM designee, Certified Investment Management Analyst® professional, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designee, and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® professional.
