Ethics and the Financial Crisis On-Demand
The financial debacle of 2008 and the fallout it caused to our economic infrastructure has increased corporate moral and social responsibility, creating a zero tolerance in our society for unethical behavior. Based on true-life experience and client case studies, this “no holds barred” presentation focuses on the costs of unethical leadership and steps an organization needs to take to instill guiding principles that become part of the corporate culture, including the ethical conflicts many investment advisors face in their role in guiding clients’ investments decisions.
Speaker | Richard Bowen
Richard Bowen, professor of accounting, Naveen Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas, was a former business chief underwriter, Citigroup, during the housing bubble financial crisis meltdown and saw firsthand the fraud inside the organization. According to the Wall Street Journal, CBS Evening News, and 60 Minutes, he is the Citigroup whistleblower who repeatedly warned Citi executive management about risky business practices and potential losses related to mortgage lending. Citigroup eventually stripped Mr. Bowen of all responsibilities and placed him on administrative leave. He subsequently testified before the Securities and Exchange Commission and provided them with 1,000 pages of evidence of fraudulent activities prior to the bank bailouts occurring three months later. His testimony has been widely quoted in numerous articles and pieces of litigation related to the meltdown, and he was a key witness the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission in 2010.
