Your role as an advisor is to be the person who can explain this complicated program and how it applies in each client’s situation.

What is an Investments & Wealth Institute Microcourse?

 
  • It’s immediately applicable – we’ve scaled the information to the “need-to-know, now.” Use the information as soon as you close your browser.
  • It’s easily digestible – interactive in nature, the combination of text, video, graphics, charts, and knowledge check questions keeps you engaged while maximizing retention.
  • It qualifies for 1 CE credit – we know we’re pushing the definition of “micro”, but some of us need continuing education (CE) credit. Each microcourse qualifies for 1 Premier CE credit for CIMA®, CPWA®, and RMA® certifications and 1 CE credit for CFP Board® (pending approval).

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Learners must complete all lessons, pass a quiz with a score of 70% or higher, and take the survey to earn continuing education (CE) credit. The following entities have accepted it for CE credit:

  • 1 hour of CE credit for CIMA®, CPWA®, and RMA® certifications
  • Audit-proof, Premier CE
  • Automatically uploaded to your certification record(s) upon completion (may take up to 24 hours to be reflected)
CFP Board®
 
  • 1 hour of CFP® CE credit for CFP® Board 
  • Uploaded to your CFP® Board record on your behalf, within 2 weeks of completion

Upon successful registration, learners will receive two emails: one including a transactional receipt and a second including navigation instructions for accessing the content. Access instructions are also included below:

  1. Log in to the Investments & Wealth Institute website, and click "Dashboard" in the upper right corner.
  2. From the Dashboard, click the "My Online Learning Center" link in the left navigation.
  3. Once re-directed to the Online Learning Center platform, your content is located under the heading My Courses on the main page. Alternatively, you can find it in the My Learning tab across the top navigation.

Social Security Planning


It is imperative that advisors understand the implications of when and how to take Social Security retirement benefits when creating holistic, goals-based retirement income plans. The information presented within this micro course is based on lectures from Marcia Mantell, RMA®, NSSA®, and is designed to give you an appropriate overview Social Security retirement benefits.

  • Describe the historical background of the Social Security system and explain its purpose
  • Explain to clients where they can find additional resources about Social Security and how they can create an account to access personalized information regarding their benefits
  • Discuss when clients should apply for Social Security benefits and explain the consequences associated with filing early, filing at full retirement age, and delaying filing
  • Calculate monthly Social Security benefits for your clients
  • Identify the four categories of individuals who may be able to claim Social Security benefits and explore how their benefit computations may differ
