Denver, CO — June 21, 2019 — This past spring the Investments & Wealth Institute (Institute) conducted a job task analysis on what wealth advisors need to know in order to provide the most relevant and valuable services to high net worth clients. The Institute regularly conducts a job task analysis to ensure that initial and ongoing certification requirements reflect current professional practices, and to establish the voluntary Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) certification as the premier standard for advanced wealth management practitioners.

The study requires both a survey of advisors and consultants followed by focus groups with subject matter experts to thoroughly examine the advanced competencies needed to provide the highest level of wealth management advice. The survey asked participants to rate the importance of a series of knowledge and skill statements as related to job performance, while the focus groups concentrate on the future of the profession to ensure that those who hold CPWA certification represent the level advanced knowledge necessary to advise their clients. The study assists the Institute in identifying critical information to include in the CPWA certification requirements, including the education curriculum and the certification examination.

Due to the recent job task analysis the CPWA Certification Exam will be revised to reflect the results of this study. The current CPWA Certification Exam will be available through September 30, 2019. The revised exam will be available starting December 1, 2019.

To assist candidates in preparation for these revisions, the Institute is offering two unique opportunities. The first is the rare opportunity to attend the in-person CPWA executive education program in partnership with Chicago Booth at a highly discounted rate of $2,000. The class will take place at Chicago Booth September 15-20. The fee includes paper-and-pencil CPWA Certification Exam attempt on Friday, September 20th. The other opportunity is a 2-day refresher course being held in Denver, October 3-4, 2019. The 2-day in-person workshop is a refresher on the concepts, calculations, laws and strategies that can potentially be tested on the CPWA Certification Exam. The $395 fee includes paper-and-pencil CPWA Certification Exam attempt on October 4, 2019.
