Renewal Requirements

Renewal requirements for the RMA certification.

By maintaining the RMA® credentials, certified professionals are demonstrating high standards of professionalism to the public they serve. There are three requirements for renewal:
  1. Attest to completion of 20 hours of eligible continuing education in the last year (the requirement going forward will be 40 hours including two hours of ethics, because we're moving toward a two-year renewal cycle).
  2. Pay a certification renewal fee.
  3. Complete the compliance requirement indicating continued adherence to the Institute Code of Responsibility, as well as disclosing any federal/state regulatory actions or complaints.
Requirements in 2020 and beyond are likely to include more requirements for documenting continuing education (CE). Please see CIMA/CPWA renewal requirements for expected CE requirement changes in 2020.

In 2019, anything that was previously approved for RIIA CE will be accepted, as well as anything that has been approved for CIMA/CPWA continuing education credit. Going forward, anything approved for CIMA/CPWA credit will also be approved for RMA certificant CE credit.
